Course Details
This three-day course is for law enforcement officers who are designated de-escalation instructors and routinely interact with the public.
Participants learn to train students to recognize, understand and effectively respond to crises. This class focuses on verbal skills, strategies and tactics for de-escalation, presented in a law enforcement context. Participants learn to apply active listening skills, build rapport and use influence to promote behavioral change, with a focus on effective strategies for law enforcement professionals. Attendees will participate in discussions and deliver a prepared presentation based on what they’ve learned. These skills will be applied to scenarios using a firearms simulator/virtual reality system and/or through role-playing.
Topics include the causes and stages of a crisis, physical and psychological responses, and techniques for de-escalation.
