Course Details

Public information officers are a vital asset to each public safety department. Join this POST-approved, multi-disciplinary experience to gain the knowledge needed to promote your agency and manage a public crisis. We welcome participants from all public safety disciplines and municipalities. 

This certification prepares public information officers to manage communication in routine and crisis situations. Topics covered include:

  • Community engagement
  • Advanced interviewing
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Communicating in a multi-cultural community
  • Leading from your position
  • Communicating your agency's mission through video
  • Crisis communication strategies


Participants complete a group project to apply skills in planning, writing and delivering key messages. This course is suggested for communication professionals with at least three years of experience.

Cost: $695 (includes daily lunch)
Municipal and county law enforcement agencies in Tennessee’s distressed, at-risk or rural counties can request to have registration fees funded through LEIC’s DARRT Initiative.
