Cybercrime Investigations

Course Details

This 16-hour course introduces patrol officers and new detectives to the scope, trends and common types of cybercrimes against adults. The course focuses on technology-facilitated stalking, domestic abuse and financial scams.

It prepares participants to understand and handle these types of investigations, as well as provide them with the investigative techniques that can be utilized in a range of criminal investigations.

Topics covered include:

  • Essential cybercrime terminology, legal considerations and effective report writing.
  • Practical investigative tools, including mobile device investigations, open-source intelligence and social media.
  • Best practices reinforced through real-world cybercrime case studies and community-law enforcement approaches.
  • Victim advocacy and safety planning.
  • Digital evidence.
