Course Details

This session equips law enforcement with an in-depth understanding of how to respond effectively to strangulation cases and carry out comprehensive investigations. Strangulation is one of the highest-risk forms of abuse. Even a single strangulation incident increases someone’s risk of being killed by their partner by 750%. This training explores:

  • The lethality of strangulation.
  • The prevalence of strangulation crimes.
  • The traumatic impact on victims.
  • The medical consequences of strangulation.
  • Best practices for law enforcement working with adults and children who have been strangled.

Additionally, this training highlights the intersections of strangulation with interpersonal crimes of domestic violence, child abuse, human trafficking, sexual assault and vulnerable adult abuse. Participants gain an understanding of how abusers use strangulation to kill and stage death scenes to cover up homicides.
