The Law Enforcement Innovation Center (LEIC), an agency of the Institute for Public Service for the University of Tennessee, is seeking a person for the Executive Director position. The successful applicant provides oversight and leadership of LEIC. This position serves to develop, market and provide training programs, as well as, hire and retain a diverse staff of subject matter experts for delivery and coordination of programs. This position also maintains a working relationship/partnership with law enforcement both nationally and internationally, serves as a resource for the University system on law enforcement matters, and manages the fiscal resources of the agency.
To apply, the applicant must have a master’s degree in criminal justice, public administration, education, or a related field. A total of fifteen years of law enforcement experience with increasing responsibility is required and must include five years of Command Level law enforcement experience (personnel, budgets, decision-making, media relations, etc.).
The candidate must demonstrate the ability to seek funding resources, and grow new work for an organization. The successful applicant must be able to provide marketing/training presentations and networking skills that contribute to the success of the agency. Experience with successful grant management is preferred. Completion of a senior level leadership program (FBI National Academy, Senior Management Institute for Police, Northwestern Command College, South Eastern Leadership Academy, etc.) is preferred. The applicant must be able to work in a variety of training situations, which could include those involving human cadavers and human remains.
High levels of written and oral communication skills are necessary including knowledge of industry standards and university software. Must be able to travel frequently in state and out-of-state and remain overnight for extended periods, which may include international travel. Must maintain active membership in related organizations.
