Basic Criminal Investigations

Course Details

This introductory course provides participants with foundational knowledge of the criminal investigative process, including the identification, collection and preservation of forensic evidence. Students gain practical experience in interviewing witnesses and suspects, drafting search warrants, processing crime scenes and presenting evidence in court.

Through hands-on scenarios and a mock trial, participants develop the skills necessary to conduct thorough investigations and effectively present their testimony in a courtroom setting.

This hands-on training includes: 

  • Responding to a scene 
  • Case management 
  • Case documentation 
  • Search and seizure 
  • Interviews and interrogations 
  • Courtroom testimony


Cost:
 This class is free to all Tennessee law enforcement officers through the Tennessee Office of Criminal Justice Programs (OCJP) Violent Crime Intervention Fund.
