Southeastern Leadership Academy

About the Academy

The five-week, comprehensive Southeastern Leadership Academy (SELA) challenges participants to develop their leadership styles and become more effective and progressive leaders. The academy includes interactive instruction from top law enforcement personnel.

SELA is held at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga campus. Sessions are monthly, with the opening session lasting two weeks. Each session focuses on a theme:

  1. Foundations of leadership and leading others
  2. Leadership skills
  3. Building external relationships
  4. Employee/internal matters
  5. Critical issues

When: The program runs July through November each year. SELA does not run for consecutive weeks, allowing smaller agencies to reduce the impact of staff vacancies.

Who Should Attend: The academy is limited to mid-management personnel. All candidates are closely screened and must be prepared to complete university-level coursework.
